Seven European regions have joined forces in a 4-year, 1.2-million-euro project to help the food sector overcome the many challenges it faces. Coordinated by Romania's West Region, the NICHE project has sought to facilitate new business opportunities in the agrifood sector, based on the participating regions' innovative power, knowledge base, and smart specialisation resources.

The project is approaching completion, so the West Regional Development Agency organized a conference to showcase its results. The conference took place at the state-of-the art VOX Technology Park in Timișoara and I was the interpreter during the main part of the event – which also included a display of some innovative foods developed by companies participating in the project.
